Samantha Kelly Suicide: 14-Year-Old Dead After Rape Claim – A 14 year-old girl from Huron Township, Michigan committed suicide because of what appears to be a history of being bullied after she made rape allegations against a senior student at the school she went to. Her rape allegations began as statutory rape in September when her and her mother went to a police station in hopes of getting charges file against the student. On November 8th Samantha Kelly hung herself after having to endure a long day of harsh taunting from her peers.
The memorial page setup for the teenager was apparently a target for even more taunting, allegedly involving pictures. Even though the disparaging comments which were put on the memorial Facebook page were removed, the reactions from others still remain. Kelly’s mother became furious after police decided to drop the sexual charges against Joseph Tarnopolski, 18, after they decided they had no case without a complainant. Samantha Kelly’s mother claims that no justice was served in this case and that the charges against the eighteen year old should not have been dropped as the result of her daughter’s suicide. This incident is just another teen suicide in a rash of cases all across the country which has resulted from taunting and bullying at school.

This is heartbreaking and exactly why more rapes aren’t reported…that and the fact that it’s so difficult to prove in the Courts. Also, it’s very typical for witnesses, or those with knowledge of the incident, not to support or stand by the Accuser for fear of experiencing the same persecution, themselves. Meantime, the tormet and alientation, coupled with the severe humiliation and misplaced sense of guilt, is overwhelming to a victim and can be deadly if not dealt with by seeking Professional help. I know, first hand, of these things and the residual damage rape can cause, with repurcussions that affect every aspect of a victim’s life for the rest of their lives. Professional counseling is so important, after a violating incident like rape, as well as direct education in the school system and workplace, and the support of family & friends. It could literally save a life!
Totally agree with you Shanna. This is the number one reason many more woman (young and old) dont report rape and much more jerks get away with doing it. This surely will have a horrifying effect on your life for the rest of your life. Relationship issues, trust issues, etc. It is so not fair at least once you get justice and feel like someone believed you, you do get the strength to go on. RIP Samantha Kelly and my condolences to your mother, loved ones and friends. I hope this doesnt have to happen again before the police do something about the way these cases are handled. If a woman says NO it’s NO REGARDLESS IF THEY ARE IN A ROOM ALL ALONE.
That poor little girl should have never went through anything like that my heart goes out to her family ,and for the boy who thinks he gotten away with rape nothing good will come to him he still has to answer to God. Family of the little girl I will keep you in my prayers.
