Putin left the presidency in 2008 due to term limits, hand picked his successor Dmitry Medvedev while he became prime minister and ruled Russia while standing in the background.
Seeing that Putin will win the elections next year seeing that he made sure that he eliminated all opposition, the leader could be in power until 2024.
The current mock president revealed Putin’s decision on Saturday in front of 11,000 members of Putin’s party, United Russia, saying:
“What we are recommending to the convention, it is a deeply thought-out decision. Moreover, we really discussed this possible turn of events at the time, when we formed our comradely union.”
If Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin’s move was not bizarre enough Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev went on to reveal that when Mr Putin takes over the throne, he has all the intentions of moving two kilometers down and take up the role of prime minister.
