It was by one shot that Bubba Watson beat golf legend Phil Mickelson to win the Farmers Insurance Open and get his second win on the U.S. PGA-Tour.

It was a 12 foot birdie putt that put the cherry on the cake during the final hole at Torrey Pines located near San Diego, California. Tiger Woods had won the tourney the previous five times but finished 44th this time out.

For his efforts Watson gets to pocket $1.04 million and is a welcome follow up win to his Travelers Championship seven months earlier.

Watson is very level headed about the win and having beaten such notables as Mickelson and Woods, it’s certain he 32 year old will continue to rise in the stats and gather a larger fandom. His speech during the news conference showed that he’s appreciative and willing to learn more.

It’s good to see another rising star with his mind focused on the game with professional cool. It’s a sure thing he’ll be able to keep that top spot and more.
